I would like to be able to see the size of the file before I share it. I just accidentally pasted a link to a 22 MB gif that I got from Giphy and put the URL into a note. Damus won't display display it.

A size warning would be nice. Maybe also a size limit on images that's under 2 MB. 25 MB is a reasonable size limit for videos but GIFs should be limited to much smaller.

We do a compression on gifs and resize them to under specific dimensions, but not limiting the size below the general limit. I am yet to get to the free upload page refactoring, I am only one dog that works for free, so need to prioritize fiat mines to stay solvent 🐶🐾🫡🫂

On a separate topic, we were chatting in nostr:npub1jk9h2jsa8hjmtm9qlcca942473gnyhuynz5rmgve0dlu6hpeazxqc3lqz7's Nest the other day and I had a thought. Would it be possible to create a way for users to bring their own AWS bucket to nostr.build to reduce your hosting and bandwidth costs and allow users to retain direct control over their own images? If so, could it be made plug-and-play so there’s no friction on the part of the user other than that they have to sign up for an AWS account?
