and you mentioned that you are normally giving your identity to a company, at the start, Bluesky will host your data on a PDS (personal data server), but you can host your own really easily (they recommend 1GB of RAM only), and then you host it yourself, and if you don’t like where Bluesky is going, you can take that PDS and migrate it with you to another service built on the protocol. It’s very cool. The plan for the future is that you can set it to automatically backup so you can always have your data with you
Hey nostr:npub1sg6plzptd64u62a878hep2kev88swjh3tw00gjsfl8f237lmu63q0uf63m I’m curious why you were talking about custom algorithms and protocols at the Oslo Freedum Forum.. you mention custom algorithms that you can take with you and plugin to Social, this *is* Bluesky… you can host your own feeds on your own hardware or use free tools like SkyFeed to create them with keywords and lots of rules.
There are some proper algorithmic ones too, which learn what you like, but you can also fully turn it off and just use following tab.
Also you mentioned that you wanted a protocol that anyone could take and build on top of; publicly or just on their own. The ATProtocol (Authenticated Transfer protocol) CAN be, it’s just in development, but once that’s finished they can just work on Bluesky the app, which in Nostr terms could be the person who made the original Nostr GitHub repository finishing that, then someone forking it for Damus, just slightly differently. Bluesky is an example app of what can be done on the protocol, but anyone could go and make a fork of the ATProtocol and make a YouTube app for example, it’s endless.
Just curious if you knew about this…
