I know this may sound weird if you're from the US but, expecting me to man a bar with 30 years of experience, hotel training as a restaurant professional and with cocktail certs coming out my ears for €13/h because "you'll make good tips" is a straight GFY from my end.

Tips are a bonus. Given to the staff by the customer for good catering. It's not part of the wage structure.

I'm pretty sure more people in the US agree with this.

Probably now because of the IRS news on taxing tips which btw has been a thing in some EU countries for a long time. The issue I have with the "you make good tips" statement is that tips can greatly vary every month. You cannot rely on your tips especially if you work in catering influenced by seasons.

A wage is a wage and tips are tips.

I agree with you.

Makes budgeting difficult without knowing whats coming in.

precisely.

They don’t even make that an hour doing anything out here in Kenya 🇰🇪
