i've seen this before. this is awesome.
i want a guy like this helping me manage a big underground stash of metallic and electronic items for a solar killshot CME. with those 50 machines and the desigs and tools to build them, even if everything above ground is gone, within a generation we could recover this ability, once the bad space weather stops.

it's the only path to a future, after all
disasters happen. sometimes they are really big. sometimes there are people who spend all their time and energy promoting fear about some disaster that isn't actually going to happen, and as a consequence people's attention is pointed in the wrong direction.
there is nothing tinfoil hat about building levy banks on flood prone waterways.
there is nothing tinfoil hat about putting a hat on to not have your nose burned to a crisp in 14 hours of high summer in a subtropical/tropical region.
besides all the rest, if we eventually figure out how to leave the planet, all of this becomes extremely pertinent when it is months of time delay between being able to ask for help and help arriving. understanding how to build a functioning, prosperous community, it is key to NOT LOSE CRITICAL INFORMATION DUE TO DISASTERS. changes of comfort levels from electronic high tech information age back down to bronze/steam age type lifestyle are gonna be brutal. we already know a lot of what happens then. constant tribal conflict and famines and epidemics.
