What are other great v4v players besides fountain?
If you claim to care about #V4V music and want to support them it’s your job as a listener to make sure the apps are working as intended and the sats are going to the artists when you Boost.
If we want to get more artists onboarded we need to make sure they are getting the sats when we boost them. These V4V music shows take hours to make and the host are sending most of the sats they get straight to the artists so the least we can do as listeners is making sure they are getting them.
I know nostr:npub1v5ufyh4lkeslgxxcclg8f0hzazhaw7rsrhvfquxzm2fk64c72hps45n0v5 is very popular around here but they keep having a bug where when a song is playing in a podcast and you Boost the sats go to the show and not the track being played.
Most apps will show you the splits when you send the Boost or show you where the sats went after the fact.
Both of these Boosts are for the same track and you can see that the splits a completely different.

Podverse, PodcastGuru, Curiocaster and LNBeats are what I use.
Web - Podverse, Curiocaster and LNBeats
iOS - Podverse, Castamatic, PodcastGuru and LNBeats (PWA)
Android - Podverse, PodcastGuru, Curiocaster (PWA) and LNBeats (PWA)

I've tried them out. So far:
- all seem to support only Alby, I don't have Alby account, except for Podverse, which wants web-ln browser extension (probably better, but I still don't use it).
- PodcastGuru has not updated episode of my podcast since August. All other players see the new episodes, this one does not
Do any of these support a different model than Web-ln / Alby? What I like about fountain is that users can immediately begin.
On the plus side - wow, so many apps!
unfortunately they all use Alby. We are looking for other options but its been a slow process.
These other apps were existing podcast apps that added lightning and Alby was willing to help us do that.
Fountain is a newer app that was able to add lightning from the start and they are more focused on Bitcoin so their lightning features are more beginner friendly.
Thanks for checking out the other apps! It hard to get people to even look at them.
I think this would be an ideal use case of Cashu (Cc nostr:nprofile1qqs9pk20ctv9srrg9vr354p03v0rrgsqkpggh2u45va77zz4mu5p6ccpz4mhxue69uhhyetvv9ujuerpd46hxtnfduhsz9thwden5te0dehhxarj9ehhsarj9ejx2a30qyg8wumn8ghj7mn0wd68ytnddakj7xph5zr). The only problem is that mints can't do keysend now. There should be a way to get the node to give us invoice that would be processed and logged on the server side as keysend. At least until v4v spec adds either lightning address, or even better bolt-12. But there should still be a way to do keysend payment, as podcasts won't have to migrate.
Cashu would add a choice of custodians, self sovereignty, privacy but no need for channel management.
Another option is Nostr wallet connect, but that would not expand the selection that much, it's pretty much Alby and mutiny these days, while mutiny is shutting down. But hopefully NWC will be adopted by more wallets.
Both Cashu and NWC are usable from web, with very simple APIs, so implementing this is possible even in the browser apps (PWAs)
That about sums it up.
For a few years people have been saying Alby is a single point of failure and when they went invite only we started to panic and now they are moving to AlbyHub the pressure is on but we can’t find any better solution or any one on the Bitcoin side willing to help like Alby has.
Right now it’s use Fountain or build a node and run AlbyHub. Those of us that are all in on PC 2.0 and lightning are building nodes and/or running AlbyHub.
The Alby guys were on PC 2.0 talking about this stuff, segment starts at 35:45 for anyone interested. Adam and Dave were not happy with Albys changes so they do a good job of explaining what we need.
