The same problem that killed the Instagram is already effecting #olas

People won’t use it to post photos… people will use it to post test in jpegs and memes.

Ruining the overall appeal of that square photo phone Instagram created.

If you want it to remain hip. Remove media uploads.

So you don't consider a meme a picture?

You just want exclusive camera roll photos ?

Yes in my opinion.

A meme is definitely not a picture.

Then I'm your problem lol sorry

I tend to agree though; if you want exclusively photos from camera roll then it must be hard locked in the app. Idk how you would atop it though

I love memes. Someone should make a 9gag type of app. It would be amazing.

Bit on the jpeg spectrum between, Photography -> Screenshots. Memes sit somewhere in the middle.

But really, olas would look cooler with just photo, and less memes, and I don’t know how to fix that other than blocking uploads 🤷‍♂️

Perhaps a personalized relay that will use an image classification model to filter based on a set of criteria. I'm unfamiliar with what specific model could be used, someone else know?

You can already post from olas & amethyst with others to come I'm sure. It seems difficult to police. Maybe have a tag to differentiate between media uploads vs camera shots, and let users decide what they want to see?

Quality comment yes

That is interesting point

I agree, I don’t really want to see memes or images with text in my Olas feed. It might be good to have a way to create a list of npubs to exclude from the Olas feed. I don’t want to block them completely as there may be other regular notes that I do want to see but just not their Olas posts.

If there were a way to develop a decentralized version of “Lapse” (social photo / disposable camera-esque journal application on iOS) where you can only post photos and uploading media isn’t even an option, that’d be fffff awesome.

It’s pretty cool as-is, if it weren’t for its poor app privacy with certain data linked to you. Definitely better than Instagram imho.

this would be cool, take photos in app only 🤔

Nothing killed Instagram, it continues to experience growth

can you clarify what you mean by "killed Instagram?"

As an Instagram user, the thing I least like about it is the volume of ads and the way the algorithm detracts from my actual feed from followers.

There was a moment when Instagram became huge. The feeds stopped being just photos, and it was filled with garbage. Then the ads of course.
