The expense seems high time preference but the health seems low time preference. This is a tough one. I'd do the same thing if I could afford it though.

I think you could accomplish the same thing with ground beef on the cheap

This. Just cook as much ground beef as you can at once and add whatever you want to it based on your taste for that day
