Ran some analytics on zaps on nostr, it's quite terrible...
~95% of users have their lightning address set to a custodial wallet
~91% of all zaps by volume have gone to a custodial wallet
#[0] is the clear winner of 50% of users and 67.5% of volume

I'm in the same boat as you.
I've only just got my head around hardware wallets, then they change the language and start calling them signing devices, then everyone keeps pushing a certain device, then you find out you can use an old phone as a signing device, etc.
Lightning is even worse. You hear that people have their own, sovereign lightning nodes and have lost sats due to wrong setups, or that certain lightning wallets can rug you at any time, etc
Personally, I don't mind using a custodial lightning wallet. I only use it for Nostr and Fountain, and I only have a few thousand sats on it at any time (literally a few dollars).
Nobody should be forced. Everyone should go at their own pace.

I use WoS for Nostr, and I won't add to it from my savings in cold storage. As far as I'm concerned, zaps are meant to be shared within the Nostr world. Maybe to buy something IRL if you get enough.
Although, if someone zapped me like 1M sats or more, I'd definitely move some off to my cold wallet.
