Lawsuit Filed Against European Commions For Failing To Protect Macedonians In Bulgaria – OpEd

Macedonian organizations have filed a lawsuit against the European Commission in the Court of Justice of the European Union. The lawsuit demands the registration of Macedonian associations in Bulgaria and the protection of their right to freedom of assembly and association. The lawsuit also calls for the suspension of the European Union's financial assistance package to Bulgaria until the violations of Macedonians' rights are addressed. The European Court of Human Rights has condemned Bulgaria 14 times for violating the rights of the Macedonian minority. The European Commission has been accused of failing to protect the rights of Macedonians in Bulgaria and enforce the judgments of the European Court of Human Rights. The European Commission is now obligated to answer for its failings to the Court of Justice of the European Union.
