Replying to ZambiaRoots

They're probably just in my imagination, but I could see Amazon finding something offensive in a classic like the Tolkien, Chesterton, etc... and silently editing the text/audio using AI. Or simply removing a title that they don't like. My question is, how can I owne my digital audiobook library and ensure its not tampered with.

I suppose you would need to have the digital book file downloaded on your own device, and use an app to play it that does not alter the file. Probably something open source that can be trusted.

I download PDFs and EPUB files of my books and then use an app to read them out loud. It's a computer voice, but not so bad, you get used to it. So I own my digital library and don't have to worry about getting rugged. That's why I don't buy toi many Google Play books or Amazon Kindle books or Audible books anymore.

Yeah, i was curious about maybe downloading all my audiobooks and then keeping that device offline.

I'll have to try the some pdf or epub readers. I haven't tried them for years. When I last tried it was not great.

If you want open source options there's Voca (who are on nostr) and sherpaTTS (so you don't have to use googleTTS). Certain voices are better and less delayed than others (I use GB southern english, low)
