Bacon and eggs became the American breakfast staple after a propaganda campaign created to boost the sale of bacon of the Beech-Nut Packing Company.

Edward Bernays devised a PR strategy that used doctors to market bacon as healthy. The bacon business started to boom and changed the breakfast industry.

In his 1928 book, Propaganda, Bernays lays out how social science and psychological manipulation can be used in PR. He hypothesized that if you understand the public’s mind, you can manipulate people without their realizing.

Bernays was so successful in his marketing campaign that bacon has since transcended the breakfast category.
