I wish nostr developers and users would be more intentional about shaking the “crypto” reputation the protocol currently has as a strategy to attract more people. The fact that nostr is not blockchain doesn’t mean the masses won’t believe it.

How do you shake it off though? For normies Bitcoin is crypto. You get on Nostr, and you won’t survive a day without someone mentioning Bitcoin. I mean zaps. For normies that’s crypto.

There’s no way around it really. The only way forward is to lift the flag high and be proud about it. Decentralized permissionless comunication and/or money? Yes!

We should start by preventing clients from generating a first feed that looks like this for newly onboarded folks

No one is saying we have to sensor bitcoin talk but maybe starter relays should filter out the word bitcoin so their feed doesn’t look like this.
