Its not about imagining or thinking constantly about this or any other threat to my life or freedom or well-being. Its about identifying the risks, being aware of them and then after having as accurate and realistic assessment of those risks, to make actions to mitigate them to the extent possible. With all due respect but "ignore" is the worst advise imaginable, bc it means go blind and amorphic to the approaching undesirable events that can be avoided or even stopped. Ignore the cancer bc it's at stage 1 and I still can live as a perfectly healthy person? Already too many ppl live in this mode. Ignore and live like a free person? What does it mean even? You can't be serious. Imagining and doing nothing is living in a prison. But realising and start doing something is regaining an agency that state wants to take away from us.

No one said ignore the risk. I even said it could happen. I also never said not to take precautions — at a minimum you should make yourself hard to cancel.

But I see people who make nary a peep IRL, dissenting only behind 5 VPNs and an anon handle, living in fear the state will crash their door if they were merely to stand behind their real views. That’s how the cancer spreads — via compliance.

Dissenting behind 5 VPNs is not compliance, it's a precaution. Just like releasing Bitcoin anonymously was not compliance but an appreciation that if you threaten the states's power it will destroy you.

*directly threaten before you have critical mass

Apples and oranges.

Satoshi needed anonymity to birth this technology. Regular people expressing dissent need to stand up and not comply in real life while only dissenting in secret.

Being anonymous/pseudonyms and opting out of kyc'd systems in order to speak and act freely in the digital realm is the *most* powerful thing the average person can do to stand up to the current system.

Non compliance with laws in real life will just get you thrown in jail.

I’m talking about speaking the truth under your own handle online. Go ahead, out us all in jail. They are passing laws as we speak making “disinformation” illegal and those who only post it under nyms are empowering the censors IMO.

Strong disagree. If everyone who were against censorship stood up IRL and under his own name, there’d be no censorship. It’s only because people go along and pretend to comply that the State can feign the legitimate authority to do what it does.

The hiding strengthens the frame of the censor.
