Would be cool in the future if there is a NFC tag in the cache that can sign an Attestation event for the Found Log Event. The client can then broadcast this on behalf of the cache.

You could use the Attestation NIP regardless actually in place of your Geocache Verification Event (Kind 7517).

An NFC tag cannot sign events, it can only store an nsec that can sign events. (which is read by the host)

The thing you are looking for is smart cards, which I work with a bunch. Those can sign things on-chip.

This would be possible. But you would need some way to prevent someone from executing a relay attack, where the you ask the chip to sign on behalf of others…

JavaCard is designed for the enterprise market and sucks for the average dev, unfortunately.

Want a better experience? All you will need is to find someone willing to work with you (good luck) and sign NDAs

Also, it can be a label, or a chip, or anything. And even though we call them "smart cards", the preferred term now is "secure microcontroller" (mostly).
