Strawberry season is almost over at the homestead

Been picking strawberries every day for the last three weeks. The strawberries started ripening a couple weeks earlier than last year.

While we started picking earlier than last year the yeilds have been lower. I didn't get a chance to mulch around the strawberries last summer and I think they had a little too much competition.

Our favorite way to eat them this year has been in smoothies with our raw sheep's milk.

The wild strawberries have been more prolific this year than ever. We spread composted horse manure on the pasture where most of them grow last summer which probably has a lot to do with it. I'll have to take that feedback and make sure to give the cultivated varieties more fertility and mulch so we can get some better yeilds again next year. Raspberries are just getting started now, gooseberries after that.

It's very sweet and creamy but the fat doesn't separate well.
