210k FREE SATS up for grabs. Final day to enter!

I’ll be teaching a course on bitcoin this fall at a local college. I need some topics and discussions for the course.

My good friend #[0] is also in the business of educating people on bitcoin.

So we’re running a contest. A little brainstorming contest!

The winner of the contest will receive 210,000 SATS ⚡️

210 THOUSAND SATS

Here’s how to enter:

1. Comment below with some topics or discussions that would be useful to new bitcoiners

2. Must be following #[1] and the best (and only) golf company on Nostr #[2]

3. EVERY comment (idea) will get a minimum of 21 SATS

Draw will be made Sept 15th! Every comment = one entry!

GOOD LUCK 👊🏼

the importance of #bitcoin #UTXO consolidation

with network/miner fees only going higher as of late, who knows where they’ll be down the road 6 months, 18 months, 2+ years from now

100% this is a VERY important topic. I don’t think this course specifically will be that advanced.

But a great idea for intermediate courses.

Do you have any good resources or tips on this topic?

Btc able to end all war: The problem with fiat is that it can be printed to infinity, making all war started by the printers to last forever. If the money has a limited supply there is no way wed waste so much of it on meaningless war

YES. Fuckin bingo.

And most people can actually understand and relate to that. It’s one of the few things that clicks with new people

Especially with whats going on with ukraine vs russia

My best in with new people is first to get them to agree that the current government and central bank operations are doomed, then I try to teach them to look at Bitcoin as an actual insurance policy. Not like insurance they are familiar with today because those are also scams.

Go into Ponzi schemes, talk about the majority see Bitcoin as one then go about proving why it isn’t.

Explore 'Bitcoin and Decentralization.' It delves into the philosophy behind Bitcoin's decentralization, covering trustlessness, censorship resistance, and its impact on financial sovereignty.

Make sure people understand what KYC is and why they should avoid it. Also they should understand that “not your keys, not your cheese.”

My personal favorite phrase

Not your 🗝 not your 🧀

Thanks! Yeah it is so catchy and easy to remember and also teaches an important lesson at the same time.

The lightning network would also be a great topic to discuss.

Bitcoin-Mining can become the solution to Energy transmission costs made it energy production more efficient and cheap worldwide.. now we have the possibility to mine with low cost energy in any random place in the Planet and transform that energy, send it almost instantly in another part of the world as Bitcoin, and if needed use it to buy energy again. Circular-energy-economy

A very thorough review of the white paper.

And how we got to that.

I think it’s very important to understand how bitcoin came about.

As (In my humble opinion) bitcoin is an implementation of many other projects.

I think it would be helpful to have a miner on hand to show them what it actually is. (As I’m my experience it’s hard to describe what they actually do)

Actually showing how to do transactions on chain. To show how the transactions get put into blocks. To see how the mempool looks and works.

I wouldn’t get into anything other then the base layer protocol with first timers. No L2, L3 stuff.

The biggest part is showing them and making sure they understand fractional reserve banking.

And how bitcoin is completely different.

How if you can understand the systemic issue of money that #bitcoin helps to fix, you can apply “system thinking” to other issues in society like migration, racism, sexism, etc. Of course money is a thread through all of these as well. 🤔 🧐 💭

I keep thinking about this. How to orange-pill family and friends. I’m very thankful to #Bitcoin because for me it’s the best way I found to receive international help, for me bitcoin is digital money that helps me to pay my mother’s bills. But I think it’s not easy to “invest” or trust on it for someone who can’t make ends meet. Even if bitcoin is better than dollar, I have a friend that invest in bonds and stocks and dollar, but he is not interested on bitcoin.

So I think it’s very important to show how easy is to buy bitcoin, to teach that you can buy sats with cents (it’s not necessary to buy a whole bitcoin) and to show the differences with FIAT money.

I’m new in nostr, sats and bitcoin. Make a question like “tell us where to start” is allowed? (In Italy we say “I’m asking for a friend 😂”)

Great call. I will make sure to emphasize that.

Easy to skip over that part.

Welcome to Nostr and bitcoin! Very glad to have you. Let me know if there’s anything I can help with 👊🏼

New bitcoiners need to understand it's ok to start small and simple. Otherwise it can all be overwhelming and discouraging.

Bitcoin is simply digital cash that is perfectly scarce.

Make your first exchange and transfer by depositing a few bucks in strike and then make a lightning transfer to wallet of satoshi.

Set up a Nostr account and experiment with zaps.

Seed phrases, utxos management, hardware signing devices, and multi sig are powerful tools to patiently grow into.

True digital scarcity and why Bitcoin is likely the only decentralized protocol that can offer that. The immaculate conception.

I think starting off with a lighting transaction between two people would be a great way to start. Maybe be their non-kyc exchange by exchanging $1 for the equivalent sats and zapping it to them.

Or heck, start by telling them anyone who downloads a wallet (WoS has been the easiest I've found to jump right into, plus they have funny randomly generated addresses) Will get 100 sats. And then give sats out throughtout the class for participating. Participating is V4V!

NOSTR/Zaps thought - Setup a relay just for the class and have them spin up key pairs to have a running feed on a monitor. You can zap good questions. They can zap questions they found helpful.

Might wanna make sure they only get on your relay though, dropping them right into full global might be bad 😅.

Dont force feed em the orange pill. This article resumes it.

TLTR/Quotes:

If explaining the problem isn’t the answer and explaining the solution isn’t the answer, then what is the answer?

You have to plant an idea in their head. You have to make them think they came up with the idea on their own.

Make them experience it. They came to the conclusion. It was their idea, they found the problem.
