The electric sears grills came with a bag of lava rocks, they'd reflect the heat and absorb grease in a way that would evaporate when it'd get hot. Those grills were hidden gems, Id replace the element every few years and the grill would last at least 10. Because it was electric it usually wouldn't flame up (because no flame) unless you were cooking chicken, and even then you could avoid flareups by turning the temperature down
