I've been reading through the Doc's site in an attempt to kind of understand better. So far it seems like a custodial trade-off. It uses E-cash, so think cashu, for user privacy. They also urge that fetiments be run by what they are calling a 2nd party custodian. Friends, family, somebody trusted in your community that you could essentially go break their knees if they rug you.

To use their words, it's a community custody solution. The smaller the community, the higher the trust, but the lower the anonymity set. No matter what size of Fedimint you join though, you are essentially trusting these Guardians not to collude to rug you, which is a possibility.

I'm still pretty on the fence about this concept. I understand that people's grandmas aren't going to want to manage lightning nodes, so there are going to be some custodial trade-offs, especially at scale. Im still reading the docs though. This is my morning task. Lol.

I feeeel that, seems important to learn more about it!

I'm in general pretty against custodians, but I've been letting some people use my lightning node via LNbits, so I've kind of been acting as a custodian.... If I am going to act as a custodian and Uncle Jim people onto the Bitcoin network, I would like a more private solution because as much as I love LNbits, it's really not the most private way of doing things. For the user.

Absolutely, I agree with you πŸ’― and it’s really cool you’re doing that enki!! Lfg!
