Love how this turned out. Made the batter a few days ahead (butter and flour only) and filling another day - apples - red and green, lemon juice, a tiny bit of cinnamon, nutmeg, all spice, one tiny clove (pounded) . The tinge of spices gives it a bit of that British fruit cake soaked in rum smell and taste. I cut back sugar from 1 cup to 1 table spoon brown and 1 table spoon honey. I couldn’t do lattice as butter and flour-only recipe needs a constant chill dough and I had no time to keep putting it in the fridge - but glad it turned out perfect ❤️
