You can't make a fiat coin out of materials worth the some monetary value of the face. That defeats the purpose of fiat entirely!

Which is why I save nickels - next US coin to fall (followed by the penny, again)

Nickels are currently 25% nickel 75% copper solid alloy (silver rather than red/brown for interesting chemical reasons)

US nickels are worth 5.7c in metal value & cost the feds around 10c to make

They naturally hedge against inflation, deflation, currency revaluation and are barterable in the event of collapse

Most of my wealth is in reserve assets (gold but you can use Bitcoin if you must) or investments, but I think US nostriches should consider saving some nickels
