We are excited to be documenting the progress of an old Japanese timber frame that has now been relocated to Western #massachusetts and after a few repairs will become part of our builder’s new shop space in Tyringham, MA. This is a 150 year-old 'kura' or storehouse that was previously part of a silk mill in Shinshiro. The process was managed by the North American branch of Kominka Collective, a not-for-profit company who specialize in saving Japanese kominka, cottages, studios, and traditional materials that would have otherwise been destroyed. It will be fascinating to watch this project develop over the coming months…

I would like to participate in one of these journeys someday.

Or a timberframe building.

Yes I only wish we had been there in Japan to see the original building being taken down. But seeing it rebuilt here in Massachusetts is the next best thing. Should be cool.
