Most of these people have no idea what they are talking about in terms of energy and how fossil fuels maintain their ability to survive.

Their slogans of "stop oil now" would result in an entire economic shutdown. Just about 100% of everything you use on a daily basis has oil or natural gas (petrochemicals) in the manufacturing process.

They are advocating a return to an 1800s level of technology. But I doubt they even understand that.
