Italian officials have taken measures to secure the Garisenda tower, one of the Two Towers in Bologna, to prevent its potential collapse. The tower, which has been leaning since its construction, will undergo 4.3 million euros ($4.7 million) worth of reinforcement works. The tower has sustained additional damage over the centuries, and efforts to reinforce both towers have been ongoing since the 1990s. The mayor of Bologna has also requested that the towers be recognized as UNESCO world heritage sites .
