I'm not "paying" taxes. Where I live they simply take however much of my money they want, BEFORE I get whatever is left ...
... and if (read: when) they want more, they simply grab some more.
They even force an additional percentage of what is left into a pension scheme, which they also decide when (and if) I will ever get paid out.
Genius design of a modern slave system, I must say.

Most of EU is like this, but all the Nordic countries have perfected this system.
Last year the motor registration office charged me too much for my car, but when they returned the amount it was immediately taken - because the Tax authorities felt that I owed them "some amount".
They seriously can't tell me how much I "owe" or why, but they still took the money.
