Count calories + consistent caloric deficit?

This is the way
It is almost impossible to over eat if all you eat is plants and animals. Nobody gorges out on broccoli. Once you restrict your diet to normal (evolutionary) foods, ensure regular exercise. Both high intensity/ resistance to build muscle and plain old aerobic like walking, running, etc… to build endurance. Not fast, but effective long term. Lifestyle, not a diet.

Disagree. Energy in vs energy out is the wrong paradigm. Mass in vs mass out is a more appropriate paradigm.
A kilogram of boiling water has a significant number of calories in it. If you take that kilogram of water, completely seal it off, and let it cool off, it will still weigh one kilogram. But it doesn’t have the calories in it anymore.
So energy does not equate mass.
