This is a point where I'd say that if a standard doesn't support bridges its a bad standard.
Also if you're old enough to remember im+ or #pidgin we need clients that support all the competing standards, after all: isn't the end goal to be able to communicate with one another?
The bridges end up being the weakest links, as they're rarely treated as a neutral party
