I hope Bukele is for real. I really do.

Just that the story of him wiping out all the gangs without a huge fight and bringing order is one that you’d hear in a fascist state and one used to justify civil-liberties-violating measures against dissenters.

Yes, we’re all for punishing criminals, but how do we know there weren’t innocent people, even a substantial portion of them, swept up in that.

If the streets get violent enough, people will be thankful for the safety and order regardless of what it takes. Did that just happen in El Salvador?
