We have something similar in Portugal, made with molasses.
The only churros i’ve had that were AMAZING were in Spain. Every Wednesday, the town market would open and a guy would come down with his churro van and make the best thick churros, crispy on the outside, soft on the inside. I haven’t had churros like that ever since. They’re always so dry and stale tasting even when freshly made
