It’s my understanding that nostr DM’s are encrypted but relays see that a dm was made between the two users, just not the content. Am I understanding this correctly?

Are the contents of nostr DM’s secure?

They are secure in the sense that yes they are encrypted. Metadata is not.

Further, there is no forward privacy, if your secret is compromised, all previous and future message can be decrypted.

This is why we are all waiting on a double ratchet implementation.
