I did the same thing about 13 years ago, with different motives. My goal was to read the bible to prove that Christians were idiots. I was instructed to read through the New Testament first, so I read through The Gospel of Matthew. I was pretty messed up by Ch 7 verse 21-23. I thought that as an Atheist, if I were wrong, that at least I would be in front of some of those hypocritical Christians. Turns out the standard to enter heaven was pretty high. That broke me.
