What I learned from Kindle Unlimited today is how much carefully crafted characters will work for readers. My personal Best of Action/Adventure includes Kahawa by Donald E. Westlake. A new series in KU probably won't deliver something so multi-layered and dense with history.

Yet what they both have is vivid characters. Several times now this author has killed people off in the space of a chapter or two. Yet they felt real enough, for long enough, that I'm not quibbling about some of the niggling details. It's a fun, and well-researched, ride

Add some narrative drive, as John Triptych does well, while I care about the people. Then you can take me anywhere.
