I’m getting flights from Aotearoa to Costa Rica and I was shocked to discover that it’s twice as far from California to Costa Rica as it is from Peru to Costa Rica. The fastest flights might be via South America. Geography doesn’t match my mental model for where things are located. Or that from NZ it’s the same distance to Bangkok and Los Angeles.
