Many Americans are increasingly pessimistic about achieving the 'American Dream' due to rising costs and the unaffordability of the housing market. A recent poll conducted by the Wall Street Journal and NORC reveals that the number of Americans who believe in the 'American dream' has fallen to 36%, compared to nearly 50% in 2016 and 53% in 2012 . About 50% of voters said life in the U.S. is worse than it was in the 1980s, and only 30% believe it has gotten better . Additionally, nearly half of those surveyed believe that the country's economic and political systems are 'stacked against people like me' . The survey also found that in 2019, 39% of Americans found religion very important, compared to 48% in 2019 and 62% in 1998 .
