Reminds me of Google Plus... Some executives sitting around saying "gee we need a social network, how hard can it be?"

This is one of many reasons why I'm neither an AI doomer, nor AI Utopian.... Because we can already see these things bumping up against the limits of both economic and computational reality. C.f. Sam Altman's reference to their "melting GPU's."

Google+ was great and more active than Twitter. It failed because Vic Gundotra left and no longer had anyone championing it, IMO. Then they merged several departments together and it all went to shit after the redesign and focus on communities. I had 4M followers there.

I was unaware of that history, thank you. I remember it being primarily positioned as competition to Facebook... with significantly more control over privacy, which was something that Facebook was getting hammered with at the time.
