I agree. Though, it is still a bit limited in the amount of cloud storage space they offer—my phone alone is 1TB—so for many, it is still not optimal to use for ongoing device and phone backups. Hopefully, Proton will see this recent Apple debacle as an opportunity to increase the storage space included in their premium accounts and release a photos app—making it an easier jump for most people.

Indeed. I'm on the Business plan and it's still not economical for full device/photo archive backups. I do like the fact that they automatically increase drive space every year I stay with them, though. If they play their cards right and dramatically increase their storage space, this event really could be their Gmail triumph over Yahoo Mail moment.
