Do you know which day of the week is dedicated to which celestial object?

Monday: Moon

Tuesday: Mars

Wednesday: Mercury

Thursday: Jupiter

Friday: Venus

Saturday: Saturn

Sunday: Sun

In Latin and Celtic languages this association is much more obvious than in Germanic, because the Germanic names are derived from the Norse gods associated with these celestial bodies.

The association of planets, sun and moon to weekdays is over 2,000 years old and has spread from Rome around the entire world. Indian languages also follow this logic, and South-East Asian languages tend to follow the Hindu names. In East Asian languages week days are simply numbered, except for Sunday 日
