As much as I'd like to believe you are right... as I experiment with nostr, I feel as though it's ripe for abuse. I know this may be an unpopular idea, but I wonder if there shouldn't be a part of the protocol dedicated to referring content to law enforcement.
- If we acknowledge that civil society will always have a responsibility to protect it's citizens through law enforcement.
- If we also acknowledge that it is undesirable that law enforcement evolve into a surveillance state.
- Finally, if we desire a protocol that supports people acting as free citizens in a public square... then those citizens should be allowed to declare themselves as witnesses or plaintiffs to others who violate their rights... which would include reaching out to law enforcement when they feel victimized by criminal acts or harassment.
From there, due process can sort it out, building on the legal 'codebase' that already exists, rather than embedding too many moderation tools into the relays themselves.
