What are you planning on getting? I’ve been thinking about doing the same thing.

I got the pixel 7 pro 🤷‍♂️ not sure what to expect, every android phone I've ever seen looks built like shit

GrapheneOS is designed to work perfectly with the pixel phones if I'm not mistaken

You're not mistaken 😉

I have to admit, the P6P and P7P are good looking phones imo

Feel like shit compared to an up to date iPhone tho.

The stainless steel frames make a hell of a difference.

Still happily choose my freedom pixel over any iPhone to date tho.

Preaching to the choir bro. iPhone 14 Pro here, but can’t take anything away from pixel. It’s come a long way.

yeah, that's basically the trade I'm doing here 😅

the initial pain was well worth it in the long run

The only thing I miss is clipboard sharing and airdrop working natively

If you use SBGMS, you can still use Nearby Share even without a Google account.

As for AirDrop replacements:

https://snapdrop.net

https://pairdrop.net (more advanced fork, and for when the main site goes down)

I know snap drop, thanks.

Nearby sharing doesn’t work with a Mac, does it?

No, it's a Google thing primarily.

OS lock-in and all that.

Are you going to de-google?

100%

Having it googled in the first place was what was keeping me out but I’ll gladly pay the degoogling tax mow

(Just without the pretense that that will mean the phone won’t be fully pwned)

Not tomorrow but same. I have to do the same.

this is the way.

only thing worse than apple is google.

One wants to use you for all you are worth, the other does the same and sells what it can use directly to the higher bidder.

Yes, I love the possibilities of a true open secure OS that takes full advantage of hardware. But with borrowed hardware and most importantly a borrowed software echosystem, It will be an up hill battle falling short of potential.

Nothing truly worth doing is easy so good luck.

I am still waiting for the year of linux when it becomes more than just a niche OS. There is an amazing echosystem and vast hardware support and yet still suffers in obscurity.

Although full secure bitcoin wallet (w/optional hardware signing key), lightning payments and nostr messaging as an imbeded direct feature of the OS might just give it the legs it would need to really shift the conversation for all of those involved.

Just think a GrapheneOS pixel driven mining pool that activates when the phone is plugged in and has an +80% charge.

Sure it might just be penny distribution but wow could be a game changer jump to the a solid #3 spot in the personal connectivity device market.

Apple takes all the money you have.

Google takes all you have for money.

I’m guessing this is the new whip…
