I get how this appeases lawmakers, but I really hate protect-the-children framing. That's what caused this mess in the first place.

What I care about, and the petition does mention this, is privacy for everyone and protection from mass surveillance. I don't care about children, they are the responsibility of their parents. If the state insists on "protecting" them, because they distrust parents, then it needs to do so without violating my rights. And I feel no need to suggest an approach.
