It was far better purchase experience, no typing in credit card details just a simple scan of a qr code and instant confirmation.

I agree, although in shops I’ll just tap my phone to pay for things now, I don’t bother taking my wallet with me, I assume that same NFC functionality could be achieved with lightning wallets and POS.
You can do this now. Obviously it’s not an option in stores today, but will be once retailers realize they can save 3% on every transaction.
