One solution is single sign on. The Fediverse maintains a single authoritative authentication database which is replicated out, like Kerberos or OAuth. This solves the broken URL issue, and from that you could fix the broken message polling across servers and the broken block behavior.
Also: HubZilla and Zot does everything you want. It works a thousand times better than Mastodon and ActivityPub. But it doesn't have the users and it's user interface is horrific.
