Do you think things like real property titles will eventually be transferred via smart contract using Bitcoin as the base layer? Or is this a pipe dream?

I think that’s going to require cooperation from the government to recognize those titles and transfers as valid. Also, what happens if a property owner loses his private key?

Maybe governments as we know them become irrelevant in the not so distant future.

That's the hope.

Maybe on something like Liquid but not base layer.

Could be tied to a particular UTXO

For something like this, I always work back from the unhappy path. In this case, how will a title conflict be resolved? In the courts or by code? The latter option is a pipe dream barring a revolution that overthrows our existing legal framework. So using “smart contracts” which are not real contracts, to transfer title to non-digitally native things (i.e. with a physical footprint) is not meaningful

“…barring a revolution that overthrows our existing legal framework…”

So you’re telling me there’s a chance…

Seriously, though, I think you’re probably right much as I remain somewhat intrigued by the concept.

The good news is, the same legal framework is largely toothless when it comes to unconfiscable, censorship resistant, and purely digitally native property
