It could work for meetups too. I'd like the orange pill app to implement this instead of using location data.

Well, we don't have a feed, nor hashtags. If you want to look up bitcoin events without the geolocation you can already do so in meetup or eventbrite, maybe twitter too?
Our goal is to make local discovery of plebs, events and soon merchants as seamless as possible and that requires leveraging the device APPROX geolocation.
