Tomorrow the European Parliament is going to vote on its latest #EU #AMLR proposal.
Unfortunately, the Trilogue procedure led to the removal of all civil society recommendations, weakening the position of the only directly democratically-elected EU institution—the European Parliament.
This has resulted in:
đź”» a considerable reduction of financial freedoms & increased financial exclusion;
đź”»heightened risks of abuse of the AMRL, including the exposure of EU citizens and residents to the potential misuse of their financial data by authoritarian regimes.
Additionally, as the EU sets global financial regulatory standards, the negative language in the AMLR about privacy payment tools, such as self-hosted wallets & mixers, could lead to restrictions on financial freedoms in third countries and increase the potential for financial repression by illiberal regimes.

If you check our submission you will see, that before Trilogue procedure (or it is called „silence procedure”), the draft was very liberal and even recognized crypto-assets as a payment instrument.
Beside that recently, after advocacy mission, we got support from Members of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe in defense of #bitcoin.
The main problem that #EU citizens don’t even try to protect their freedoms. For instance how many times you tried or met to educate politicians or their staff about social use of bitcoin?
It is very admirable what you are doing. I understand the struggle. When I lived in Europe, I kept trying to explain to my friends that the principal purpose of the commission and parliament was to take away freedoms from Europeans. Nobody listened at all. They give the carrot of freedom of movement that governments themselves took away and then in the background strip any form of representation and humanity from the continent. I just left and don’t regret it. I sincerely hope Europeans wake up to the tyranny but I have my doubts.
