I grow the strawberries. They are heavy and lay on the ground. When they are red I pick but the bottom side on the ground is eaten by bugs. How do I avoid this?

straw mulch?

Leaf mulch

My MIL uses straw because it stays "fluffy" and can hold up the berries.

Ahhhhh hmmm. I’ll see what I can do. Thanks

Is it purely from bugs or has a bird pecked a small hole attracting the bugs? That’s what usually happens to mine. Sometimes slugs and sow bugs just have a fest. I just eat them any way. Probably the only way to stop this is to grow them in one of those towers.

Bugs. I usually catch them still munching away. Little black hard shell bugs

I use the timeless trick of mulching around the plants with straw- works well for me

My wife just told me this yesterday. She said, "that's why their called strawberries."

💯

What percentage are you losing? More plants is my preferred way to guarantee a good pick. Critters are gonna feed.

Of the few that have ripened, 100%. It is covered in white strawberries not yet ripe but they are untouched. Put some plastic between them and the ground so will see if that helps

Damn. Greedy critters. 😂
