Health tip of the day:
It is estimated that our skin can produce up to 25,000 international units (UIs) of vitamin D3 in the right conditions (being outside all day in a clear summer day). Vitamin D3 is actually a hormone with multiple functions in the body like bone homeostasis, muscle function, oncogenesis, immune response and metabolism.
So if you're living in a cloudy place or have to be indoors all day, taking at least 5,000UI/day of Vitamin D3 could be beneficial health-wise. Randomized controlled trials are still needed, but there are no serious adverse side effects reported with these dosages (there have been studies with individuals taking up to 50,000IU/day for at least 12-29 months with no adverse side effects) and it's relatively cheap to buy.
