I am thinking it would be nice to have threads for private messages. This way if you start a conversation with someone it can be about a specific topic - like in email. Once your done talking about that topic you can move onto another clean thread.

I think this would make it much easier to organize conversations, but perhaps you need additional tooling around it to enable that organization.
