God rules two kingdoms: the common/temporal, and the redemptive/eternal.

His rule for the former is Justice / the law of retribution / the LEX TALIONIS. This law presupposes individual rights, responsibilities, and accountability. This is also called Natural Law.

His rule for the latter (and the latter alone) is grace (though there are important aspects of clemency in the former).

Enemies of God's rule for the common kingdom (or its presuppositions) are enemies of God himself. To war against these enemies is not to enforce Christianity on society, but only to enforce natural law--something that is common to all humanity regardless of faith profession. In this sense alone should we be comfortable with the term "cultural war."
