In 1760, during a period of religious persecution in Transylvania, Oprea of Săliştea bravely defended his Orthodox faith against forced conversion to Catholicism. Summoned before the imperial authorities, he refused to renounce his beliefs, declaring his unwavering allegiance to Orthodox Christianity. Despite facing threats, imprisonment, and torture, Oprea remained steadfast, inspiring others to resist apostasy. He was eventually martyred for his faith, becoming a symbol of courage and resistance for Orthodox Romanians.
