In the late 90's and early 2000's an incredible optimism abounded about this new thing called the Information Super Highway aka the Internet.

It was going to spread truth everywhere--maybe even foster a new Utopian age.

Well, we see where that got us.

In person, people are generally good, kind, and respectful. What happened to us and our Internet experience?

Perhaps "Web 2.0" helped to drive the division we see because it was built upon poor principles and incentives.

Namely, if the product is free, our "customers" are actually the product and we must therefore drive "engagement" using any means necessary.

With the growing success of #nostr #[1] Amethyst, and the many wonderful clients out there, will we fall into the same-but-different Web 2.0 model?

Or, do we really have a shot at building and contributing to something that will by orders of magnitude make the world a better place?
